Non-Surgical Spinal Stenosis Treatment — 96 Years of Spine Care Expertise

Ayurvedic management of spinal canal narrowing — pain relief, nerve decompression, and mobility improvement.

Medically reviewed by Dr. Ramesh R. Varier, BAMS, MD (Ayurveda) · Last reviewed July 2026

Spinal Stenosis — Overview & Ayurvedic Understanding

Spinal stenosis is narrowing of the spinal canal that compresses the spinal cord or nerve roots. Lumbar stenosis typically causes pain and heaviness in the legs when walking (neurogenic claudication). Ayurvedic care is highly effective for mild-to-moderate stenosis.

Symptoms of Spinal Stenosis

Leg pain and heaviness on walking (claudication)

Symptoms relieved by sitting or bending forward

Lower-back stiffness

Tingling or numbness in legs

Difficulty walking distances

Causes & Risk Factors for Spinal Stenosis

Age-related degenerative changes

Disc bulges and ligament thickening

Spondylolisthesis

Congenital narrow canal

How We Diagnose Spinal Stenosis

MRI of the lumbar spine — central canal diameter assessment. Clinical walking tolerance test. Ayurvedic Vata assessment.

Spinal Stenosis — Surgery vs Non-Surgical Ayurvedic Treatment

Why Non-Surgical Ayurvedic Treatment Works for Spinal Stenosis

Personalised Ayurvedic therapies, targeted physiotherapy, yoga, and internal medicines improve walking tolerance in most patients with mild-to-moderate stenosis.

When Surgery Is the Right Path

Severe stenosis with progressive weakness or cauda equina syndrome needs neurosurgical decompression.

We maintain transparent referral relationships with leading orthopaedic and specialist surgeons.

In milder and early stages, many spine and disc conditions respond well to Ayurvedic medicines and guided home care after an initial consultation; inpatient or visiting therapy is reserved for more advanced or non-responding cases.

Treatment cost

We do not publish a price for spinal stenosis treatment, and that is deliberate. AVN Arogya does not use fixed protocols — the treating physician designs each programme individually, and it is that protocol which determines the cost.

It is only at the end of your consultation that the physician can say which kind of care you actually need:

  • Outpatient — medicines to take at home, with review visits. The least involved option, and for many people it is enough.
  • Visiting therapy — you come in for therapy sessions over a period and return home the same day.
  • Inpatient admission — you stay with us for intensive daily therapy. Here the estimate also depends on the duration the physician recommends and the room category you choose.

Once those are decided we give you a written estimate for your own plan, including what your insurance is likely to cover. Quoting a figure before the assessment would mean quoting one that may not apply to you.
