Abnormal narrowing of a passage or canal in the body, such as the spinal canal or a blood vessel.
Stenosis is the abnormal narrowing of a passage or channel in the body. Depending on where it occurs, it can restrict the flow of blood, air, urine or food, or press on nerves. Examples include spinal stenosis, where the spinal canal narrows, and narrowing of heart valves or arteries. It is usually identified with imaging such as MRI, ultrasound or angiography.
