Shirodhara
Also known as Oil Pouring on Forehead
Continuous stream of warm medicated oil poured on the forehead — AVN's signature therapy for stress, sleep, and neurological conditions.
Whether this therapy is right for you is a physician's decision
About Shirodhara
Shirodhara involves a continuous, rhythmic stream of warm medicated oil (or other medicated liquid) flowing onto the forehead — specifically the Ajna Marma region — for an extended period. It is one of the most measurably calming therapies in the Ayurvedic canon, producing documented changes in autonomic nervous-system balance within a single sitting.
When Shirodhara may — and may not — be appropriate
May be appropriate for
- Chronic insomnia
- Anxiety and chronic stress
- Migraine and tension headaches
- Neurological conditions (Parkinson's, MS, post-stroke)
- Chronic scalp conditions
- Burnout and fatigue syndromes
- Certain paediatric developmental conditions (gentler formulation)
When it should NOT be done
- Acute fever or infections
- Acute cold and congestion
- Recent head injury
- Certain psychiatric emergencies requiring alternative care
The decision is always individualised by your treating physician.
What to Expect During Shirodhara
Profoundly calming. Many patients fall into deep relaxation within the first 10-15 minutes. Benefits accumulate across the course; sleep improvement usually noted within 3-5 sittings.
