About Vasti

Vasti is medicated enema therapy — the most widely used and versatile Panchakarma procedure. Classical texts call Vasti 'the most important treatment' for Vata-dominant conditions, which covers the majority of musculoskeletal, neurological, and spinal disorders. Types include Kashaya Vasti (decoction-based) and Anuvasana Vasti (oil-based), typically administered in courses of 8, 16, or 30 sittings.

When Vasti may — and may not — be appropriate

May be appropriate for

  • Most musculoskeletal disorders (spine, joints)
  • Neurological conditions
  • Chronic constipation and gut-brain axis disorders
  • Hormonal and reproductive conditions
  • Rheumatological conditions

When it should NOT be done

  • Acute diarrhoea or dysentery
  • Severe rectal pathology
  • Recent abdominal surgery
  • Pregnancy (certain formulations)
  • Active GI bleeding

The decision is always individualised by your treating physician.

What to Expect During Vasti

Comfortable and well-tolerated when administered by skilled technicians. Patients rest for 30-60 minutes after the procedure.
