Nasyam

About Nasyam

Nasya is the administration of medicated oils, ghrita, or herbal preparations through the nasal passages. Classical Ayurveda considers the nose the gateway to the brain and sensory organs, which is why Nasya is central to treating headache, sinusitis, cervical conditions, neurological disorders, and certain psychiatric conditions. Routine preventive Nasya (Pratimarsha Nasya) can also be part of daily self-care.

When Nasyam may — and may not — be appropriate

May be appropriate for

  • Migraine and chronic headaches
  • Cervical spondylosis
  • Chronic sinusitis and allergic rhinitis
  • Facial palsy (Bell's palsy)
  • Parkinson's disease and neurological conditions
  • Memory and cognitive decline
  • Hair and scalp conditions

When it should NOT be done

  • Acute febrile illness
  • Recent nasal surgery
  • Severe deviated septum (relative)
  • Children under 7 without paediatric protocol

The decision is always individualised by your treating physician.

What to Expect During Nasyam

Mild initial sensation; significant clearing of sinuses and head region within 2-3 sittings. Often the most noticeable and appreciated of Panchakarma procedures.
