Tonsillitis
Modern MedicalTonsillitis is inflammation of the tonsils, the two pads of tissue at the back of the throat that help fight infection. It causes a sore throat, pain on swallowing, fever, and red, swollen tonsils sometimes coated with white patches. It is most often caused by a virus, though bacteria such as streptococcus can be responsible. It is common in children and teenagers.
