Thrombocytopenia

Thrombocytopenia is a lower than normal number of platelets, the blood cells that help blood to clot. People may bruise easily, notice tiny red or purple spots on the skin, or have nosebleeds, bleeding gums or heavy periods. Causes include infections such as dengue, some medicines, autoimmune conditions and bone marrow problems. It is detected with a simple blood count.
