A procedure using controlled heat to treat tissue, such as bronchial thermoplasty for asthma.
Thermoplasty is a medical procedure that uses carefully controlled heat to change the structure of a tissue. The best-known example is bronchial thermoplasty for severe asthma, in which a thin tube is passed into the airways and gentle heat reduces the excess smooth muscle that tightens them. It is performed in hospital over a series of sessions, usually under sedation.
