Seborrhoea

Modern Medical

Seborrhoea is the overproduction of sebum, the natural oil made by glands in the skin. It leaves the face, scalp and sometimes the chest looking greasy and shiny, and can contribute to acne, dandruff and seborrhoeic dermatitis, a flaky, reddish rash around the nose, eyebrows and hairline. Hormones, stress, climate and genetics can all influence how much oil the skin produces.

Definition

Overproduction of oil (sebum) by the skin, leading to greasy skin and scalp.
