Rhizotomy

Rhizotomy is a medical procedure that deliberately interrupts specific nerve roots to relieve long-standing pain or muscle spasticity. For spinal joint pain, it is often done with radiofrequency heat delivered through a needle under imaging guidance. For spasticity, as in some children with cerebral palsy, selected nerve roots are cut surgically. Relief can last a long time, but nerves may regrow.
