Proctalgia

Modern Medical

Proctalgia is pain in the rectum or anus. One common form, proctalgia fugax, causes sudden, severe cramping pain that lasts seconds to minutes and then goes away, often at night. Ongoing pain in this area can also come from fissures, haemorrhoids, muscle spasm or infection. A doctor's examination helps rule out other causes of rectal pain.
