Polymyositis
Modern MedicalPolymyositis is an inflammatory disease in which the immune system attacks the muscles, causing gradual weakness of the muscles closest to the trunk, such as those of the hips, thighs, shoulders and upper arms. People may struggle to climb stairs, stand up from sitting or lift objects overhead. Blood tests, muscle studies and sometimes a biopsy help confirm it.
