Paraplegia

Paraplegia is paralysis of the lower half of the body, affecting both legs and often bladder, bowel and sexual function. It usually results from injury or disease of the spinal cord in the middle or lower back, such as trauma, tumours, infection or reduced blood supply. The arms remain unaffected. Rehabilitation focuses on mobility, independence and preventing complications.
