Oesophagitis
Modern MedicalOesophagitis is inflammation of the oesophagus, the food pipe that carries food from the mouth to the stomach. It is most often caused by stomach acid flowing back upwards, known as acid reflux. Symptoms include heartburn, chest discomfort, pain or difficulty when swallowing, and a sour taste in the mouth. An endoscopy may be used to look at the lining directly.
