Inflammation of a nerve, causing pain, tingling, numbness or weakness in the area it supplies.
Neuritis is inflammation of a nerve, which disturbs the signals it carries. Depending on the nerve involved, it can cause pain, tingling, numbness, burning or weakness in the area that nerve supplies. Optic neuritis, for example, affects vision in one eye. Causes include infections, autoimmune conditions, diabetes and vitamin deficiencies. Nerve conduction studies and scans can help identify it.
