Damage to or disease of the kidneys.
Nephropathy is a general term for damage to or disease of the kidneys, which filter waste and extra fluid from the blood. Long-standing diabetes and high blood pressure are the most common causes. Early stages often cause no symptoms, so it is usually found through urine tests for protein and blood tests that measure how well the kidneys are working.
