Inflammation of muscle, causing weakness and sometimes pain.
Myositis is inflammation of the muscles, leading to weakness and sometimes aching or tenderness. People may find it hard to climb stairs, rise from a chair or lift their arms. It can be caused by autoimmune disease, viral infections, certain medicines or injury. Doctors check it with blood tests for muscle enzymes, and sometimes with nerve and muscle studies or a biopsy.
