Mastalgia

Mastalgia is the medical term for breast pain. It is very common and is often linked to the menstrual cycle, with tenderness or heaviness in the days before a period. Pain unrelated to periods can come from the chest wall muscles, a poorly fitting bra, certain medicines or breast infection. Breast pain alone is rarely a sign of cancer, but new lumps need checking.
