Unusually light or short menstrual periods.
Hypomenorrhoea refers to menstrual periods that are unusually light or short, with much less bleeding than is normal for the person. It can be linked to hormonal changes, thyroid problems, stress, significant weight loss, hormonal contraception or scarring inside the womb. Occasional light periods are common, but a lasting change is worth discussing with a doctor, who may suggest blood tests or a scan.
