High levels of fats (lipids) such as cholesterol in the blood.
Hyperlipidaemia means raised levels of fats, such as cholesterol and triglycerides, in the blood. It usually causes no symptoms, so many people only learn about it through a routine lipid profile blood test. Over time it can contribute to narrowing of the arteries and raise the risk of heart attack and stroke. Diet, activity, weight and family history all play a part.
