Definition
A condition where the soft nucleus of a spinal disc pushes through the outer fibrous ring, often compressing adjacent nerve roots and causing pain, numbness, or weakness.
Herniation
Modern MedicalHerniation, in the spine, is when the soft centre of a disc pushes through its tougher outer ring. The bulging material can press on nearby nerve roots, causing back or neck pain, pain travelling down a limb, numbness, tingling or weakness. An MRI scan is commonly used to confirm it.
