Inflammation of the hair follicles, producing small red or pus-filled bumps on the skin.
Folliculitis is inflammation of the hair follicles, the tiny openings in the skin from which hairs grow. It produces small red bumps or pus-filled spots that may itch or feel sore, often on the scalp, beard area, legs, buttocks or back. Causes include bacterial or fungal infection, shaving, friction from tight clothing and hot tubs. Mild cases often settle with good skin hygiene.
