Dermatomyositis
Modern MedicalDermatomyositis is an uncommon inflammatory condition in which the immune system attacks the skin and the muscles. It causes a distinctive rash, often purplish on the eyelids or red over the knuckles, and gradual weakness of the muscles nearest the trunk, making it hard to climb stairs or lift the arms. Blood tests, muscle studies and sometimes a biopsy confirm it.
