Conjunctivitis

Conjunctivitis is inflammation of the conjunctiva, the thin clear layer covering the white of the eye and the inside of the eyelids. It makes the eye red, watery, itchy or gritty, sometimes with a sticky discharge. Common causes are viral or bacterial infection and allergy. Infectious types spread easily, so washing hands and not sharing towels helps prevent passing it on.
