Cholecystitis

Cholecystitis is inflammation of the gallbladder, the small organ under the liver that stores bile. It is usually caused by a gallstone blocking the gallbladder's outlet. It causes steady, severe pain in the upper right abdomen that may spread to the right shoulder, often after a fatty meal, with fever, nausea and vomiting. An ultrasound scan is the usual first test.
