Inflammation of the bile ducts, usually from infection or obstruction.
Cholangitis is inflammation of the bile ducts, the tubes that carry bile from the liver and gallbladder to the intestine. It usually results from infection when a duct is blocked, often by a gallstone. Typical signs are fever with chills, pain in the upper right abdomen and yellowing of the skin and eyes. Acute cholangitis is serious and needs urgent hospital care.
