Capsulitis

Capsulitis is inflammation of the capsule, the tough sleeve of tissue that surrounds and seals a joint. The joint becomes painful and stiff, and movement is restricted. In the shoulder this is called adhesive capsulitis, better known as frozen shoulder, where the capsule thickens and tightens. Capsulitis can also affect the small joints at the base of the toes.
