Bursitis

Bursitis is inflammation of a bursa, a small fluid-filled sac that cushions the bones, tendons and muscles near a joint. It causes pain, tenderness and swelling, usually worse with movement or pressure. The shoulder, elbow, hip and knee are common sites. It often follows repeated movement, kneeling or leaning, injury or arthritis, and is diagnosed by examination and sometimes ultrasound.
