Blepharitis

Modern Medical

Blepharitis is inflammation of the eyelid margins, the edges where the eyelashes grow. The eyelids become red, itchy and swollen, with crusts or flakes at the base of the lashes, and the eyes may feel gritty or burn. It is common, often long-lasting and linked to blocked oil glands, bacteria or skin conditions such as dandruff. Regular eyelid hygiene helps control it.

Definition

Inflammation of the eyelid margins, causing red, itchy, crusted eyelids.
