anatomyThe meniscus is a C-shaped pad of cartilage inside the knee, with one on the inner side and one on the outer side of each knee joint. It spreads body weight across the joint and acts as a shock absorber. A meniscus can tear with a twisting injury or through gradual wear, causing pain, swelling, and sometimes catching or locking of the knee.
