About Dhoomapanam

A classical Dinacharya (daily routine) or therapeutic practice that clears the respiratory tract. Exhaling through the mouth is mandatory to prevent toxic smoke backflow into the eyes.

When Dhoomapanam may — and may not — be appropriate

May be appropriate for

  • Chronic sinusitis, asthma, recurrent cough, heaviness of the head, and excessive salivation.

When it should NOT be done

  • Hemoptysis (coughing blood), alcoholism, physical exhaustion, pregnancy, and dizziness.

The decision is always individualised by your treating physician.

What to Expect During Dhoomapanam

Liquefaction and easy expectoration of trapped mucus, immediate light feeling in the forehead, and unblocked nasal pathways.
