Hello. I am Tamilarasan, my father's name is Veeramuthu, and I speak from Sothupalayam village, Karambakudi block, Pudukkottai district. Since 2019 I have had pain in the spine. That is, the doctors told me there was some swelling at L4 L5 and that it was pressing on S1. They told me after seeing it on an MRI scan. Then they had told me not to lift weights. So I was somewhat careful. Even so, about twenty days ago I travelled a rather longer distance on a two-wheeler. Because of that my pain increased a great deal. As soon as that pain came, it was there little by little, and I said all right, there is pain, and I could not manage to rest. Because I work — being a government servant — I went to work. Because I went to work day after day, on the fifth day I could not sit in the chair. On the fifth night the pain increased. I could not walk on one leg. So on the morning of the sixth day I at once went to an orthopaedic doctor, a doctor who does bone surgery, in Thanjavur. There they took an MRI scan again. When they took it they said that the swelling that had been there in 2019 had now increased. I had treatment there for about 4 to 5 days. While that was going on, the pain did not reduce. If you ask what happened — when a pain reliever was given the pain would reduce for an hour, and after that the pain kept on. Then, after about 3 days, if you ask what the doctor said, he said surgery would have to be done. Only then could the pain be stopped, he said. I also had some hesitation about having surgery. Then a doctor I knew said not to have open surgery directly — that is, it could be done through a laparoscope, he said. All right, before meeting another doctor on his recommendation, on the day before the Deepavali that has just gone, I came out of that hospital and came home. I delayed for two days, meaning to go after Deepavali was over. Before going after Deepavali,I was looking into whether financial help could be got from any insurance schemes for government employees. While I was looking, when I contacted my friend at the treasury, a senior officer working at that treasury said that he had had his father treated — that his father too was one who had to have surgery and could not have it, and that he had had him treated in another place. That treatment was satisfying. After that his father was free of back pain. He had been bedridden, and after that he rode a bicycle, drove a vehicle, walked, and did all his work. Saying that, they told me the advice that senior officer had given. As soon as that was said, I was in two minds about whether to go. Even so, if I went for such a treatment and it did not come right for me, never mind; only the money would be wasted. There was no chance of any other trouble, so I thought, all right, let us go for that treatment. Then, when I asked for information, they mentioned a hospital name — AVN Ayurveda, an Ayurvedic hospital in Madurai; they gave only the hospital's information. Then I searched on the internet. The address and contact number and everything related to it were there. Then I looked for the address, and when I contacted that number they spoke to me. Send your medical report. We will look at it and tell you, they said, and they said it to the doctor. They said they would ask the doctor to speak. Then I looked at all the reports and sent them on WhatsApp. After that they looked at them and spoke to the doctor. Having spoken, they said, it would mean staying about 10 to 15 days, sir. If you stay, we can put you right, they said. All right, I said, and having spoken, after that they gave all the information — how much it would cost, what the tariff rates were, what the accommodation was like; they explained it on the phone and sent the information for it on WhatsApp. Having seen allthis, I came and was admitted at the AVN Ayurveda Hospital in Madurai. The day after Deepavali, after joining, I came here. As soon as I came here they asked which doctor I was going to see. I did not know anyone here, and did not know any of the doctors. But that sir who had recommended me said, ten years ago I had my father seen; I had my father seen, and my father — there is one called Dr. Biju there, go and see him, he said. That came to my mind at once. All right, I said, and whatever doctor they mentioned, I said Dr. Biju. Then they admitted me inside as his patient. After that I came inside and began staying there. Then, when I asked the doctor — every day, the way it went, in the morning a doctor would come and ask how it was and go; again at midday one would come and ask how it was and go. Every day in the morning Dr. Biju sir would come and see me. Now 12 or 14 days are over. As soon as these 14 days were over, what I can say now is that I can feel I have obtained relief of more than 90%. Before I came here, from when my pain began, I could not sit at all. I could not sit, and the leg pain would not stop at all. It was only about five days after coming here that I was able to sit. For ten days continuously I did not sit at all; either I would lie down or I would stand for a while; that is how it was. After coming here, after 5 days I was able to sit, but there was a little pain, and they told me not to sit. Then the treatment went on just so. With this treatment I have recovered more than 90%. They have told me that for the remaining days I must put it right at home by doing some physical exercise at home. They have given all the medicines and tablets. If I speak of the experience I have had since coming here — those who come daily to clean do the cleaning at exactly the right time. As soon as I came the doctor enquired of me what I had, whether I had bloodpressure, whether I had sugar, whether I was already taking medicine, what I was doing, all of it. They gave food suited to whatever my physical condition was. That is what is special here. Even that food seemed odd to me at first. It seemed as though it had not much taste. But all of it was — what I mean is, it was healthy, food that the body needs. So we keep eating it and do this. They gave food here to my mother who was with me too. That was available here as well. And then the therapists — if you take the therapists, they treated us like a child. It was very happy, the way they took us along. Seating us without difficulty, doing the therapy, what we needed, and even bathing us — they did all of it themselves. That was a very, very happy thing. Likewise they would ask daily whether there was any hindrance in any service. Having asked, they ask us daily. If there was any gap in it and we said so, they would do it for us. That is, among people who all thought it had to be surgery, who said it must be done, when I came here everyone thought it rather strange. If it cannot be managed, then surgery has to be done; why are you not having it done, they said. But after coming here I feel it now. I say thank you to that officer who told me.
