This is always a serious symptom requiring immediate medical attention, as it indicates bleeding in the oesophagus, stomach, or upper intestine.

Common Causes of Vomiting blood

  • Peptic ulcer (stomach or duodenal)
  • Severe gastritis or oesophagitis
  • Oesophageal varices (enlarged veins)
  • Mallory-Weiss tear (from forceful vomiting)
  • Severe acid reflux with erosion

When to Seek Urgent Medical Care for Vomiting blood
