My name is T. V. Balakrishnan. I come from Chennai. Before last August I was healthy. On the 4th of August, what happened was that I suddenly fell down. Having fallen, I could not get up at all. While I was in that state — Kaveri Hospital is there in Madras. I went there to have it checked, to see what the problem was. When I went, what they did was identify that I had had a stroke, and they told me so. I took some treatment. I will not say it gave no benefit. It did give benefit. Even so, my son thought it would be better if I improved further, and he selected this hospital. He said, let us admit him here and see what improvement comes. Before that, before coming to this hospital, the chief doctor here, Rajeev Warrier, had come to Madras. When I consulted him — before that they had taken an X-ray at Kaveri Hospital. Looking at it, what Rajeev Warrier said was, this does not reveal everything; there is some problem beyond what is in this X-ray. He said that to deal with it would take 30 to 40 days, that I should take 30 to 40 days of treatment. I agreed, and so we selected this hospital and my son admitted me here. As soon as he admitted me, thirty-five to forty days. When I came here in January I could not even walk properly at all. That is how I was. What they did was admit me. Having admitted me, they started the treatment. Oil massage — they gave oil massage and all of it. After that, various treatments. That is, they gave something called Nasyam. And then they put on something like a cap, what they call Thalapothichil, and gave a treatment like that. With those treatments, step by step, some relief and recovery became apparent. Compared with when I came, my condition now is excellent, you could say. Another special thing to mention is that the doctors who attended to me were very capable and excellent people. There is a doctor called Sonu. And then there is adoctor called Biju. And Aarya — there is a lady doctor called Aarya. One after another, if you look at their approach to the patients, they are very kind, they listen to everything, and you could see clearly that they wanted to bring about a recovery somehow. It was not a case of frowning and doing nothing. Whatever they thought should be done, they said so. I am 81 years old. Even though it was hard for me, it is because I wanted to find a recovery that I came here. So I bore with everything and carried out this treatment, and followed it. I can see some improvement myself. And I have the confidence that if I continue this I will fully recover. That is what I say. Another thing: the attendants at this hospital do it excellently. The massage and all of it they do excellently. Nobody has any expression of distaste or irritation on their face. They treated me like a member of their own household and did it very well for me. All of it was very good. When I first came here on 10 January, a lady doctor called Anina was the one who interviewed me. The assessment — she was the one who did the assessment. Having a pleasant lady like that is a very great thing for this hospital. They are not a clique; they are all like that. Everyone is very kind, they see what the patients need and do it all splendidly. In their approach itself, anyone at all would feel at ease. That is how they do it. Very excellent doctors. The staff and the attendants are all excellent; nobody can be faulted; they do it splendidly. After that, day by day, they ask how the body is and what improvement there is. Mr. Rajeev Warrier visits regularly. He visits and sees what the patient's condition is and what should be done, and corrects it himself — do this, do it this way. He himself had me walk and watched. Walk, let us see, he said. When I walked, if there were any mistakes or any corrections, he would sayat once, do it like this, do it that way. And I have followed that. Up to now, compared with when I came, it is certainly improving. And in future it will go still better, it will come right. Confidence has come to me. Confidence is a very great thing. This hospital gave it well. They did everything in a way that matched that confidence. As for why I selected this: this is an NABH accredited hospital. That is why. And secondly, Madurai. It is a familiar place to me — I was born in Madurai and grew up in Chennai. My wife and I have a house here at Alagappa Nagar. All of that was an added advantage. I could stay with them and take the treatment — and so these thirty-six days have gone by. I do not even know how the time went; that is how it passed. I did not feel the hardship at all. It was good throughout, without hardship. They gave good treatment. It was wonderful. I do not know how many hospitals like this there are. But of the ones I have seen, this is the best hospital. I have tried English medicines, and compared with English medicines their method of treatment is all excellent. I have every confidence that recovery will certainly come.
