AVN Arogya Ayurvedic Hospital

For family members

Your experience as an accompanying family member

When your parent comes to AVN Arogya for a 14-21 day inpatient programme, you may want to accompany them — especially for the first few days. This page covers everything you need to know about staying near the hospital, meals, connectivity, and what your days will look like so you can plan your own time off work.

What we provide

AVN Arogya is a 100-bed hospital, not a clinic. We are set up for families who travel from other cities. Below are the practical details attendants ask about most often.

Attendant Accommodation

  • In-room attendant bed available in most room categories (included in programme cost)
  • Nearby serviced apartments for families preferring independent stay
  • Hotel options within 1-2 km of the hospital
  • Hospital staff can help arrange external accommodation on request

Meals

  • Patient meals: included in the inpatient programme (Ayurvedic diet prescribed by physician)
  • Attendant meals: available at the hospital canteen at nominal cost
  • Vegetarian South Indian meals; special dietary needs accommodated on request
  • Multiple restaurants and food options within walking distance

Connectivity

  • Wi-Fi available in patient rooms and common areas
  • Good mobile network coverage (all major carriers)
  • Quiet spaces available for work calls / remote work

Visiting Hours & Daily Routine

  • Attendants can stay with the patient through the day
  • Treatment sessions typically scheduled between 7 AM and 6 PM
  • Evenings are free — family time, rest, or explore Madurai
  • Physician rounds: morning and evening (you can be present and ask questions)

Transport & Logistics

  • Airport pickup can be arranged (Madurai airport is 15 min away)
  • Auto-rickshaws and Ola/Uber available for local travel
  • Hospital located on Vilachery Main Road, Pasumalai — Madurai, easily accessible
  • Pharmacy on-site; no need to travel for prescribed medicines

Things to do in Madurai while your parent is in treatment

Treatment sessions run during the day. Evenings and days when your parent is resting are free. Madurai is a 2,500-year-old city with rich heritage — if you have the time, it is worth exploring.

  • 1Meenakshi Amman Temple — one of India's most famous temples, 3 km from the hospital
  • 2Thirumalai Nayakkar Mahal — 17th-century palace, 3.5 km
  • 3Gandhi Memorial Museum — 4 km
  • 4Vaigai River walk — peaceful morning/evening walks, 2 km
  • 5Local silk saree shopping at Puthu Mandapam — 3 km
  • 6South Indian filter coffee and local cuisine — within walking distance

How long should I plan to stay?

Most accompanying family members stay for the first 3-5 days to help their parent settle in, then return home and coordinate remotely. Some stay the entire programme duration. There is no rule — do what works for your family and work schedule. Our care coordinators keep you updated daily via WhatsApp regardless of where you are.

Questions about logistics? We make it easy.

Our care coordinators help with accommodation, transport, and daily updates.
