What is Cervical Spondylosis or neck arthritis?

Cervical Spondylosis, also known as cervical osteoarthritis, is commonly seen as a condition among the aged. Here the spinal cord, which consists of vertebrae and discs, happen to be degenerated with an increase in age. It is a common type of arthritis which is now increasingly seen in people belonging to the age group of 50-75 years.
The discs are located between every vertebra, and with age, these discs tend to flatten, constrict and become less tractable. This leads to decrease in the effect of cushioning between the vertebrae, thereby leading to an unstable spinal cord. Moreover, due to this, vertebrae are liable to growth of bone structures known as osteophytes. All these degradation in spine structure can lead to inflammation of surrounding nerves, muscles and ligaments.
Cervical vertebrae consist of top seven vertebrae of the spinal cord. When this degenerative disease affects the cervical region, it is known as cervical spondylosis. With this disease setting in, neck is susceptible to detriments. AVN Arogya provides Cervical Spondylosis ayurvedic treatment for aged people in natural and holistic method.

However, Cervical Spondylosis Or Neck Arthritis Usually Carries These Symptoms.

  • Acute to chronic pain extending from the neck to shoulders
  • Stiff muscles
  • Restricted neck movement
  • Headache

Compression of nerves causes tingling or burning sensation ranging from the neck to shoulders and sometimes extending down to the arms. This is known as cervical radiculopathy. Spinal stenosis is the condition in which the canal carrying the spinal cord narrows. With passage of time, this narrowing obstructs the flow of nutrients and blood to the spinal cord, thereby causing further damage. This condition is known as cervical myelopathy.

Diagnosis

Particular tests are prescribed by the doctor after a discussion with the patient with respect to the exact nature of the problem.

  • X-rays: This test views the position of vertebrae.
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI): This test views expanded picture of particular soft tissues, decided by the doctor.
  • Myelogram: This test is used to illuminate the nerves and spinal cord in particular.
  • Computerised Tomography (CT): Detailed view of the vertebrae is obtained from this test.
